I'm thrilled to announce the launch of my new series, "Urban Echoes" - a collection of mixed media works that explore the fascinating dialogue between urban landscapes and natural forms.
The Inspiration
This series emerged from my daily walks through the city, where I began noticing how nature finds ways to assert itself even in the most concrete-dominated spaces. From weeds growing through sidewalk cracks to the way morning light filters through urban canyons, these observations sparked a deeper investigation into resilience and adaptation.
Technical Approach
Each piece in "Urban Echoes" combines traditional oil painting with collage elements, incorporating actual materials collected from urban environments - fragments of newspapers, weathered posters, and even small pieces of concrete and metal. These physical elements are integrated into painted compositions that blur the line between representation and abstraction.
Themes and Concepts
The series explores several interconnected themes:
- Persistence: How life continues to flourish despite harsh conditions
- Adaptation: The ways both nature and humans modify to coexist
- Time and Decay: The beauty found in weathering and transformation
- Hidden Beauty: Discovering the extraordinary within the seemingly mundane
What's Next
I'm currently working on twelve pieces for this series, with plans to exhibit them in a solo show later this year. Each work tells a part of the larger story about finding harmony between the built and natural worlds.
The series represents a departure from my previous work while building on themes I've explored throughout my career. I'm excited to share these new pieces as they develop and look forward to the conversations they might inspire about how we relate to our urban environments.
